Welcome to the English as
a New Language Program!
English language learner (ELL) placement is based on your child’s test results on the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL) OR the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT).
What is English as a New Language (ENL) Instruction? (en Espanol)
ENL instruction is a program that teaches the English language to students who speak a language other than English at home. ENL instruction focuses on speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. The goal of our ENL program is to help students become proficient in English so that they are able to fully participate in academic and social activities at school and in their community.
English as a New Language Mission Statement:
At Silver Creek Central School District, we recognize the advantage of knowing more than one language and the importance of promoting and maintaining communication with our students’ families. We are committed to supporting and advocating for bilingual families in our community.
The mission of our English as a New Language (ENL) program is to provide English language learners (ELLs) with instruction that facilitates English language acquisition, stimulates academic growth, and promotes an understanding of American culture. We strive to create an environment in which our ELLs feel a sense of ownership, belonging, and school pride.
By working together, our community, families, and teachers can make the educational journey of our English language learners a successful one.
