Silver Creek High School presents the student musical “Tuck Everlasting,” on April 18-20.
Based on the American children's novel, “Tuck Everlasting” by Natalie Babbitt, the musical features notable songs like “Top of the World,” the cast favorite “Partner in Crime” and songs that will pull at your heartstrings - “Time,” and “The Story of Winnie Foster.”
What would you do if you had all eternity? Eleven-year-old Winnie Foster yearns for a life of adventure beyond her white picket fence, but not until she becomes unexpectedly entwined with the Tuck Family does she get more than she could have imagined. When Winnie learns of the magic behind the Tuck’s unending youth, she must fight to protect their secret from those who would do anything for a chance at eternal life. As her adventure unfolds, Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey.
Although audiences may be unfamiliar with Tuck Everlasting’s story, the cast hopes the community will come to discover all it has to offer.
“I like this show because I didn’t know anything about it. It’s a new adventure,” senior Liam Mattney, who plays The Man in the Yellow Suit, said.
Senior Gianna Grabias, who plays Miles Tuck, added, “‘Tuck’ is a really funny musical, but it’s also interesting, because it’s not every day you see a musical about death.”
The performance features 45 Silver Creek students in grade 7-12 as cast, pit band, and stage crew. Several of the students said the family atmosphere of the musical translates in and out of character.
“As a senior it is amazing to be able to do a show focused on family with all of my best friends as my last high school show,” Katelyn Guard, who plays Mae Tuck, said.
“My character, Jesse Tuck, sees life as an adventure, so with an eternal life, he has the opportunity to experience the world. His family doesn’t see it the same way,” senior Julie Decker said. “I think a lot of people are going to resonate with the moral of the show, which is that you need to savor the time that you have, and time is precious in and of itself.”
The community is invited to enjoy Silver Creek High's student musical production of "Tuck Everlasting" on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 18, 19 and 20, 2024, at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. The show’s two acts will be split by a 15-minute intermission featuring a basket raffle, bake sale and “kiss the cast” fundraiser to support the district’s Performing Arts Department and the Performing Arts Boosters.
