Silver Creek Central School District held a Unified Basketball Game and Celebration on May 6. During the assembly, the Silver Creek Unified Sports program received national recognition from the Special Olympics as a National Banner Unified Champion School.
The distinction marks the highest level of achievement for Unified Champion Schools in the nation, recognizing leadership in creating an inclusive school community where all students are accepted and celebrated. Since 2020, Silver Creek has fully embraced its Unified Sports teams that are comprised of special and general education students. Silver Creek is one of just 11 in the state to achieve this honor.
The half-time celebration recognized Unified athletes, Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) members and remarks from Mrs. Janet Decker, Silver Creek Unified Coordinator and representatives from the Special Olympics.
