Rachel Castiglia’s Marketing students hosted their 10th annual ice cream competition. The students put their creative minds to work to develop a unique ice cream flavor. After creating the ice cream, the class invited 60 ice cream enthusiasts to taste-test the ice cream and vote for their favorite. The winner of the flavor competition and most creative package design was Malachi Staton with his “Sparkly Cookie Blast.” His recipe was chunks of Oreos, cookie dough, KitKat, cholate syrup and edible glitter. Brady Eick won for best name, “Holy Moly Cannoli.” A cinnamon-flavored ice cream with cannoli shells and chocolate chips. Alex Chew won for best advertisement with his Caramel Toffee Crunch. Other contestants included Cassidy Westbrook with “Mudslide,” and Hayden Stephens with “Smore a Licious.” The project allowed the Marketing students to use their knowledge to:
Establish a Company Name and Logo.
Identify a target market based on their product.
Identify and create effective packaging for their product.
Establish reasonable and effective prices based on competition and costs.
