Staff and students from Silver Creek Middle and High School YAC and Unified Bowling and Basketball teams, gave up their afternoon on Saturday, June 8th to volunteer at the Special Olympics Buffalo Bowl.
The Buffalo Bowl is a Flag Football fundraising event for Special Olympics NY. Teams who raise enough money are able to compete on Highmark Field in games against others in their division.
Although Silver Creek does not participate in the Flag Football games, they do volunteer at the event. This year, the students held a children’s carnival for all the children attending the event to watch family members play on the field. The carnival had over 10 activities for the kids to participate in, each with a Polar Plunge theme to help promote Special Olympics New York’s other major fundraiser, held in December.
Fifteen students from Silver Creek and Forestville, as well as q returning alumni member of YAC/Unified all worked to provide a fun and entertaining experience for those in attendance. The students who worked at the carnival are already planning additional games and activities to make the event bigger and better for next year!
