On November 25, the Silver Creek High School Chapter of the National Honor Society hosted its annual induction ceremony. This year, eleven students were inducted.
To be chosen for the National Honor Society, students must maintain a 90% or above overall GPA. Once they receive their invitation to apply, they undergo a rigorous application process which includes obtaining teacher recommendations and writing an essay. Students must possess and exemplify the four pillars of The National Honor Society: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The ceremony opened with a welcome message from high school principal, Mrs. Wendy Harrod followed by a speech by current chapter president, Alexander Karnes. Each of the four officers spoke on one of the pillars. Speaking on scholarship was vice-president Travis Brennan, where he emphasized that scholarship is more than just getting good grades but having a thirst for knowledge. Treasurer Karissa Buchanan spoke on service and the importance of giving back to the community for not just our generation but future ones. President Alexander Karnes spoke on leadership and how leaders can come in many different forms but that, regardless, being a positive and effective leader is most important. Closing out the pillars was secretary Marissa Grisanti talking on character, consistency, and kindness.
Chapter adviser, Ms. Carolyn Laurenzi, introduced current members of the chapter including all of the officers as well as Isabella Daniels, Josie Daniels, Makayla Kelly, and Bennett Pomroy. Before Alexander Karnes led the induction pledge, each inductee had a teacher speak on their behalf.
New inductees and their sponsors are as follows: Kimberly Bauer (Mr. Jesse Hamms), Samuel Bowers (Mr. Raymond Graf), Nathan Cross (Mr. Raymond Graf), Irelynd Henry (Mr. Anthony DiGennaro), Cameron Ingram (Mr. Sean Helmer), Cody Ramirez (Mr. Marc Bridon), Adeline Richardson (Mr. Anthony DiGennaro), Haleigh Salisbury (Mrs. Jessica Kardashian), Brock Stern (Mr. Justin Cerne), Ethan Vecchio (Mrs. Amy Seiders), and Kaden Weeks (Mrs. Kristy Randolph).
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Ms. Carolyn Laurenzi. Inductees, current members, and their loved ones gathered at Sunset Bay Restaurant for a celebratory banquet.
