Students in ninth-grade Global Studies at Silver Creek High made their own cylinder seals in their unit on Mesopotamia using crayons and clay. Cylinder seals are engraved with characters or scenes used in ancient times and used as an administrative tool or a form of signature and/or worn as jewelry.
In Mesopotamia, they would have been made out of stone depicting various aspects of their life. So our Black Knights carved pieces that represented them and practiced rolling them into clay to see what the process was like 5,000 years ago.
Teacher Mrs. Jessica Kardashian tells us historians have a better understanding of Mesopotamia through the finding of cylinder seals and her students had a blast making them.
Today in the library, elementary and middle school students got to listen to NFL Pro hall of famer, Tony Boselli and ask Mr. Boselli questions about his career and achievements. Mr. Boselli shared his tips for success, including working hard, being honest, showing people you care and always being ready to help and support one another. Students enjoyed the virtual visit and the ability to ask Mr. Boselli questions directly.

Students in the History & Culture club of Silver Creek High attended the musical "Come From Away" at Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
The production highlights the people from Newfoundland and the relationships they formed with the thousands of people on the planes that were grounded for days beginning the morning of September 11, 2001.
Teacher Mrs. Jessica Kardashian made this possible through the Arts in Education program grant and is beyond thankful to have been able to share this opportunity with her students.
"This musical is such a pivotal telling to those who were not yet alive to experience 9/11 and how it changed the world." says Kardashian. "The students left feeling like they had seen something more than moving but that they learned from it and that was what I had hoped for when I planned this trip."

Good afternoon,
Today is Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Please be advised that this afternoon the District went into a shelter in place for approximately three minutes. A student exited a classroom and a teacher was not certain of the whereabouts of the student. The student was located within approximately 45 seconds of the shelter in place being called. There was a rumor that a shelter in place was called because of an alleged “person” outside of the building- this is not true.
Please be advised that shelter in place is used to limit student/staff movement but teaching can still take place within a classroom. Please see the Parents tab on our website for further information on shelter in place, lockdown, and lockout procedures.
As with all Parent Broadcasts, this will be placed on the District website and Facebook for your review.

Talented students of Silver Creek High School are taking center stage this month with a tragic romance between two youths from feuding families in William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
The community is warmly invited to attend this Performing Arts Department production directed by teacher Phillip McMullen on Friday and Saturday, January 20-21, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the district auditorium at 1 Dickinson Street. Run time is just over two hours with a 15-minute intermission featuring a bake sale and a single-basket basket raffle to benefit performing arts for all ages.
More than 20 students are involved in the production of one of Shakespeare’s most popular and beloved plays. Star-crossed lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet find a way to make true-love happen despite an age-old vendetta between two powerful families that erupts into bloodshed.
“Despite its underlying themes of deception, death and violence, the story is often romanticized as one of the greatest love-stories of all time,” says McMullen. “However, many relate to the story of finding true love but feeling as if that love is tainted or unattainable. If anything, Romeo and Juliet never give up on each other and the love they share.”
The plot: A group of Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet masquerade party. Lovesick Romeo falls in love with Juliet, who is due to marry her father’s choice, the Count Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse, arrangements are made for the couple to marry, but Romeo’s attempt to halt a fight leads to the death of Juliet’s cousin, and Romeo is banished. In a desperate attempt to be reunited with Romeo, Juliet follows a plot and fakes her own death. But the message fails to reach Romeo and he, believing Juliet dead, takes his life in her tomb. Juliet wakes next to Romeo’s corpse then takes her life. The grieving families agree to end their feud.
