
Silver Creek had the honor of setting up a table at the ECLC, during the SNI Education Dpt. Cake Walk Social. The Social was a great way for the community to come together, and participants had the opportunity to win various cakes that had been donated. Dr. Ralston walked around today for #WorldKindnessDay and #MedallionMonday. She visited Mrs. Austin's class to thank her for the handmade medallions they made for her and Ms. Cole, she stopped in Mr. Logan's class to learn some new words, and she took a selfie with Mrs. Matson in their #Kindness shirts! On Saturday, November 11, 2023, SC graduate Ellen Decker (Class of 2021) competed in the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Cross-Country Meet for SUNY Oswego. The meet was held at Houghton College. Ellen competed with 144 other athletes from across the region. She came in 29th overall, making her an All- Regional Athlete. She also set a new personal record and became the 3rd fastest runner of all time for SUNY Oswego in the 6k with a time of 22:39.8. Ellen will be graduating early from Oswego in May and will be starting at Upstate Medical in Syracuse this coming June. She will finish her running career at Oswego competing in Indoor and Outdoor track, where she hopes to continue to break more records for her school. The first Indoor Track meet is on Dec. 2nd, at Cornell. When Ellen is home from college, she is a sub for the district as well. #BKP #SCCARES #BlackKnightPride

Art teacher Paul Abate has an upcoming show and opening reception next Saturday, November 18 from 6-8pm at the "Living Glass Gallery", owned by retired art teacher Denise Williams . This event will also be the grand opening for the new gallery location on 50 Main Street in Westfield. Mr. Smerka's Social Studies class has been working on making Veterans Day cards for the local VA Hospital in Buffalo . Dr. Ralston and Ms. Cole were invited to join them in making some cards on Wednesday. Mr. Smerka played patriotic music while the students worked, and the whole class shared ideas and colored pencils with their special guests. Last night at our Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized employee Mary Williams.
Mary is Silver Creek's Native American Education Program Coordinator. There are many ways Mary supports the Native American students, as well as the broader school community. Mary is responsible for writing and implementing the Title VI grant. She is also the faciliator of our Title VI parent committee. Throughout her day, Mary works to support students academically as well as providing social emotional support. Last year, Mary was the architect of Silver Creek's Indigenous Honor Society, the first in our region. IHS recognizes Native American students for academic excellence and community service in culturally relevant ways. Additionally, Mary is an active member of our Tri-district regional group, a collaborative group made up of Silver Creek, Gowanda, and Lakeshore. As a part of the Senaca language grant, and in collaboration with the Tri Districts, Mary faciliated a series of cultural events for students in all three districts. These events highighted culturally important skills in cooking, daily life, and art. Thank you, for all you do, Mary! #BKP #SCCARES

Intermediate students (3-5) from 1:45 PM-2:15 PM
Where: Silver Creek Track– Pre-K & K will run under a lap, grades 1-5 will run one lap
Who: All grade levels– split to 2 races per grade level (girls and boys race)
Awards: Medals for 1st-3rd Boys and 1st-3rd Girls for each grade level
What to wear: Dress for the weather and please feel free to dress in Fall/Turkey attire! Students should plan to be outside for about an hour.
Posters: If you’d like to make a poster to cheer your child on we will hang around the track on the fence!
Parents are encouraged to come! You will be able to sit in the bleachers opposite the students and along the fence.
Parent pick up will take place on the visitor side
Dismissal:
• Students that are previously signed out will be leaving directly from the track. Those students should have everything they need to dismiss at the track.
• We will have the sign out at visitor’s side of the track and classroom teachers with students heading back in will head back in the opposite side of the track so they do not interfere with one another.


The Board of Education has changed the location of the Regular meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2023. The meeting will be located at the Seneca Nation of Indians Early Childhood Learning Center Library at 2016 Hënödeyësta’ Drive, Irving, NY 14081. The meeting will begin with a 6:00 Workshop where Board members will attend the Heritage Day Celebration, and a Regular meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Fourth graders were eager to share the longhouse models they created with administrators and teachers. Dr. Ralston, Mrs. Helmer, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Matson, Deputy Johnson, and Mr. Gerard came to look at student's longhouses and talk to them about their learning. Students had just recently visited a longhouse replica at the Seneca National Museum in Salamanca. #BlackKnightPride #BKP #SCCares










Mrs. McIntyre's sixth graders have been learning about Greek mythology and how ancient myths have been woven into Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief. Several students enhanced their learning with practicing and performing “Pandora’s Box”.
