Mrs. McIntyre's sixth graders have been learning about Greek mythology and how ancient myths have been woven into Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief. Several students enhanced their learning with practicing and performing “Pandora’s Box”.

At our Board meeting on Wednesday, October 25, we recognized our Board for School Board Appreciation Week (October 16-20). The Board members were presented with videos and cards made by students across all grade levels, and each board member was given a token gift bag. The bags were filled with small items from local vendors to show the District’s appreciation for the hours of time they volunteer to make a difference in the community. #BlackKnightPride #BKP #SCCares

Our Native American High school students attended the annual Seneca Nation Youth Summit on Wednesday! Students from Silver Creek, Lake Shore, and Gowanda gathered for this year's event which continued to focus on cultural activities and wellness. Workshops included making corn husk crafts, nutrition with a focus on eating a healthy traditional diet, and a dynamic career panel that offered valuable insights and advice. The capstone of the event was a traditional social dance.

DID YOU KNOW?
Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don't. Only a quarter of teens report having these conversations though.
Red Ribbon Week, (October 23-31), is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation. This is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started!
This year's theme is Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free. (TM) As a district, we are recognizing it in grades Pre-K through Twelve!
Visit www.redribbon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs. The life you save may be that of someone you know.

Today we were excited to bring back our annual Senior Citizen luncheon! The Silver Creek Seniors joined us for a Thanksgiving feast catered by Busy Beaver Catering. Musical performances were offered by each grade level, thanks to Mr. McMullen, Mr. Bridon and Mrs. Gould. Each senior was also gifted a handmade card and placemat by our elementary students. #BKP #SCCARES

Earlier today, September 29, 2023, a school bus with one driver and eleven students was traveling on Route 20 when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction crossed over the median. Our driver reacted immediately by swerving to avoid a head-on collision with the vehicle. Despite the driver’s best efforts, the vehicle collided with the bus. The bus driver and all students have been medically evaluated and we are thankful to report that there are no injuries. Parents and guardians of the students have been contacted and the students have returned to school. The District is grateful for our driver’s quick reflexes and response to the situation, which likely avoided serious injuries to himself, our students, and the other driver.
**For everyone getting repeated blank calls- the phone sytem is glitching. We attempted to relay this message through our all call system. **

Congratulations to the following Silver Creek CSD teachers who received tenure at the Board of Education meeting yesterday evening: Mary Lawrence and Jessica Kardashian. Pictured here with HS Principal Kyle Yelich, MS Principal Bethany Brown, and Dr. Ralston. #BKP #SCCARES
