Twenty-one students from Silver Creek High attended a symposium held by the Holocaust and Social Justice Education Program on Friday (April 28, 2023) with teacher Mrs. Jessica Kardashian at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown. 🚌🇺🇸🗽
Students from the History and Culture club, Global 9 Honors, Global 10 and Genocide and Human Rights classes took advantage of the opportunity to learn and work alongside students from other schools and participate in a variety of activities.
“I am so thankful to be able to share these opportunities with our students and to see them take not only an active role in standing up for others but for working to be a part of the process of change and understanding,” says Kardashian. “This generation of students has so much drive and passion and getting to have them be a part of the conversation of what they want to see for their own futures is so important.”
Interactive questions about the meaning of justice, how it is decided and how those decisions affect the future were considered. They also took a tour of the center and had a mock trial with speakers ranging from state Senator George Borello, the mayor of Jamestown, and local WJTN radio personality Dennis Webster.
The final speaker was Dr. David Crane, the first chief prosecutor from the United States to try war crimes and crimes against humanity since Robert H Jackson. He current is working on criminal tribunals in Ukraine and taking action in Syria through the Global Accountability Network he founded.

Good afternoon Silver Creek Families,
We invite you to attend the final virtual workshop on April 26, 2023. Once again, the event will be hosted by David Hymowitz of #SameHere and are part of the district’s mission to educate and support the whole child.
The topic will be Building Resiliency in Your Children. Helping your children become resilient is one of the most effective protective factors they need to negotiate life on life’s terms. There are four main ingredients to building resiliency: hope, connections, purpose, and adapting. We will explore how to create and foster these areas in their lives so they can successfully face life’s challenges.
Links for the virtual workshops are accessible at www.silvercreekschools.org. The workshop begins at 7:00 p.m. and runs approximately 45 minutes.
Contact the district social workers with any questions. Learn more at samehereglobal.org.
