𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗦 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 The "Inclusion Revolution" continues! Four student members of the Youth Activation Committee at Silver Creek High traveled on Friday (October 21, 2022) to the Glens Falls, N.Y., to attend the 2022 Special Olympics New York Fall Games and YAC Youth Leadership Experience. Black Knights Julie Decker, Emily Yerke, Colin Shumaker and Troy Cooper were accompanied by YAC advisor Janet Decker and Janine Shumaker, both staff members who coach Unified Sports bowling. The group attended opening ceremonies for the 2022 Fall Games on Friday (Oct. 21, 2022) followed by a training session, which taught them how to use different types of recording equipment to use to interview athletes, coaches, and family members at the soccer and softball games. The students and advisors helped set up and run the Young Athletes Skills Centers on Saturday and also took time to use the new recording equipment to interview people throughout the sports complex. They were also provided time to watch several soccer, softball, and Bocce games before attending dinner and closing ceremonies at Glens Falls City Park. Before heading back to the hotel, the group met back up with Special Olympic staff to debrief the events from the day and discuss their favorite parts of the event. Everyone had different views of what was their favorite, but all agreed interviewing and watching the athletes made for special memories. The entire trip (bussing, hotels and meals) was funded by the Special Olympics New York. The funds come from events like the Polar Plunge, which will be held Friday, December 2, 2022. The students and staff that attended this event will be participating in the Polar Plunge this year along with many others from the school district and community. If you have any questions about participating in the Polar Plunge or how to make a donation, please contact Janet Decker at (716) 934-2603, ext. 3434 or by email at jdecker@silvercreekschools.org.

A group of Native American students from Silver Creek Middle School participated in the Seneca Nation Education Department’s Annual Middle School Youth Summit on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. They united with students from Gowanda and Lake Shore central school districts to participate in various workshops; this year’s theme was Wellness. Our Black Knights participated in workshops on self care, including meditation and breathing techniques, healthy friendship and family relationships, and internet safety/cyber bullying. This annual event gives our students a chance to collaborate with students from the other districts that serve the Seneca Nation territory and build new relationships to help serve this community as young adults. #wearesilvercreek #nativepride #blackknightpride
