Good afternoon, Today is Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Please be advised that this afternoon the District went into a shelter in place for approximately three minutes. A student exited a classroom and a teacher was not certain of the whereabouts of the student. The student was located within approximately 45 seconds of the shelter in place being called. There was a rumor that a shelter in place was called because of an alleged “person” outside of the building- this is not true. Please be advised that shelter in place is used to limit student/staff movement but teaching can still take place within a classroom. Please see the Parents tab on our website for further information on shelter in place, lockdown, and lockout procedures. As with all Parent Broadcasts, this will be placed on the District website and Facebook for your review.

Talented students of Silver Creek High School are taking center stage this month with a tragic romance between two youths from feuding families in William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” The community is warmly invited to attend this Performing Arts Department production directed by teacher Phillip McMullen on Friday and Saturday, January 20-21, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the district auditorium at 1 Dickinson Street. Run time is just over two hours with a 15-minute intermission featuring a bake sale and a single-basket basket raffle to benefit performing arts for all ages. More than 20 students are involved in the production of one of Shakespeare’s most popular and beloved plays. Star-crossed lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet find a way to make true-love happen despite an age-old vendetta between two powerful families that erupts into bloodshed. “Despite its underlying themes of deception, death and violence, the story is often romanticized as one of the greatest love-stories of all time,” says McMullen. “However, many relate to the story of finding true love but feeling as if that love is tainted or unattainable. If anything, Romeo and Juliet never give up on each other and the love they share.” The plot: A group of Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet masquerade party. Lovesick Romeo falls in love with Juliet, who is due to marry her father’s choice, the Count Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse, arrangements are made for the couple to marry, but Romeo’s attempt to halt a fight leads to the death of Juliet’s cousin, and Romeo is banished. In a desperate attempt to be reunited with Romeo, Juliet follows a plot and fakes her own death. But the message fails to reach Romeo and he, believing Juliet dead, takes his life in her tomb. Juliet wakes next to Romeo’s corpse then takes her life. The grieving families agree to end their feud. Cast and crew: House of Montague: Romeo: Julie Decker, Lord Montague: Kolby Jamison, Benvolio: Trent Lack, Abram: Lilly Carlson, Balthasar: Irelynd Henry. House of Capulet: Juliet: Aleidy Vega, Lord Capulet: Liam Matney, Lady Capulet: Bella Banach, Nurse: Eva Tytka, Tybalt: Tristan Carstens, Petruchio: Emily Houck, Sampson: Lexi Parks, Gregory: Haleigh Salisbury. The Royals: Prince Escalus: Mr. Phillip McMullen, Paris: Dawson Russo, Mercutio: Katie Gard. Chorus/Servingman: Emily Houck, Servingman: Mrs. Carolyn Laurenzi, Friar Lawrence: Levi Lawton, Friar John: Rachel Kemp, Apothecary: Ana Szymanek. Stage manager is Alayna Brillhart with lights and sound by Lily Prince-Rivera. Special thanks: The Performing Arts Department is grateful to the stage crew, Buildings and Grounds department, high school Principal Mr. Kyle Yelich, secretary Mrs. Jody Johnson, Superintendent Todd A. Crandall, the Board of Education, the Performing Arts Booster Club and the community for its support. Tickets: $10 general admission and $8 for students/senior citizens. Buy tickets online at https://silvercreekhs.seatyourself.biz. Please note: This story is appropriate for all ages, but the language may be a challenge for young children.
