Silver Creek Elementary School’s Girls on the Run program has been training for the past 10 weeks. They completed lessons to build their social, emotional, and communication skills while training for a race.
The program also has the girls complete a community service project and the girls did some spring gardening around the elementary grounds.
The program wrapped up last week (May 31-June 5, 2022) with a 5k race at University at Buffalo.
Coaches Kelly Pieniazek and Lindsay Weiss are so proud of the girls’ accomplishments and are thankful to the parents, family members, and teachers who were buddy runners.
Third-graders of Silver Creek Elementary School went on a field trip to Evangola State park last week for a morning of beach fun! 🏖 🚌 Afterward, they enjoyed a delicious lunch at Sunset Grill. 🥤 🌭
Members of the History & Culture Club headed to Arctic Bites in Fredonia for their first cultural dinner this academic year on Monday, May 22, 2022. 🚌 🍽
The point of these dinners is for the students to try authentic food from various cultures they may not eat every day or have ever tried and to introduce them to cultures from around the world. 🇹🇭 🇯🇵
The students all had the opportunity to try boba teas of various flavors, various sushi traditional and specialty rolls, edamame, pineapple and chicken fried rice, and dumplings. 🥤 🍣 🍱🍍🍗🥟
“Of course we finished off with some Thai rolled ice cream for those who still had room after the incredible dinner we had,” says advisor and teacher Jessica Kardashian, who notes the students were willing to try things they don't normally eat and go outside of their comfort zones and it paid off. “We all had a great time and can't wait to get out and about for our next one at the beginning of next school year!”
SENIOR DAY OF SERVICE 2022: Members of the senior class of Silver Creek High united Friday (June 3, 2022) to give back to the community.
The Class of 2022 separated into groups at Sunset Bay Beach, Borrello Beach, Wells Park, Seneca Nation Beach, St. Columban’s Retirement Home on the Lake and Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
The seniors that went to the beach picked up trash, scrap metal, and even a tire!
The St. Columban’s group picked up sticks along the resident nature trail, and the group at the cemetery picked up sticks and raked.
After their community service, all seniors gathered at Sunset Bay Beach Club one last time before graduation. They had a blast – they played cornhole, football, and some braved swimming in the lake.
With the sun shining down on these 12th-graders, it was a perfect day to make a positive impact in the community they live in and brighten everyone’s day.
Silver Creek Central School District students in grades 5-7 in the Girls on the Run club participated in the Heart & Sole 5k race yesterday (Sunday, June 5, 2022) in Buffalo! 🏃♀🙌🖤💛 Learn more: https://gotrbuffalo.org
