2. Consult and team with teachers and other disciplines in the development and delivery of Individual Education Programs, including appropriate Social/emotional/behavioral supports.
3. Provide individual and group counseling as defined by IEP, Section 504 Plans and based on students' needs.
4. Support students with crisis counseling, as needed.
5. Complete assessment and documentation of student performance and progress as required.
6. Lead social skills and affective education groups.
7. Provide outreach and collaboration to outside agencies, organizations and school districts.
8. Provide parent support and education, as needed.
9. Reports regularly to student families using a variety of strategies and is responsive to family, student, and staff needs.
10. Collaborate with the educational team in the development, revision and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans and classroom positive behavior support systems.
11. Contribute to program and department initiatives to further social/emotional learning and positive behavioral and educational supports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Appropriate NYS Certification
2. Experience in providing counseling, group interventions and supportive mental health services to students with disabilities.
3. Understanding of NYS Special Education laws, regulations and processes.
4. Knowledge of family and child supportive community resources.

DESCRIPTION: Eligible candidates must assess the learning, development, and adjustment needs of students and assist in developing appropriate interventions based upon identified needs. Complete comprehensive reports (written and verbal) as appropriate. Provide student interventions and consultation to parents and staff to enhance students' adjustment and academic progress. Work as a part of a cohesive team of individuals whose goal is to educate and guide our students in the least restrictive environment.
DUTIES:
1. Conduct necessary evaluations and comprehensive reports, either written or verbal to assist the special
education team in determining the appropriate program to meet the student's individual needs through
maintaining accurate records and preparing and submitting reports in a timely manner.
2. Attend Committee on Special Education meetings as needed and act as one of the districts CSE referral
designees and the alternate CSE/CPSE Chairperson in the event that the primary CSE/CPSE Chairperson is
unavailable.
3. Oversee the existing 504 plans for supporting students in the district as the 504 Chairperson.
4. Conduct FBAs, develop BIPs, and assist in the implementation of recommended courses of action as necessary.
5. Work closely with the Director of Special Education and special education staff to help to support student
academic and social success.
6. Work to establish positive relationships with our families to support our students' success.
7. Serve as a contributing member of the Response to Intervention processes in the Middle and High School.
8. Other duties man include, but are not limited to, character education, counseling, consultation, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. NYS School Psychologist certification required.
2. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, district representatives, parents and community agencies.
3. Knowledge and understanding the continuum of special education services and the response to intervention tiered system.

The high school character committee is back in full swing! For the month of October, students, faculty, and staff were nominated for displaying "perseverance." Perseverance is the ability to not give up on yourself or others when times get hard. Nominees were highlighted on the morning announcements. There were many nominations, and on Monday, November 14, there was an assembly. Here, anyone who was nominated was called up. They received a certificate which explained why they were nominated and a Tootsie pop. Our Knights of the Month were then announced. The Knights of the Month for perseverance are (in picture order): Mr. Albert VanDette, Spanish teacher; Jorge Hasbun, 11th grade; Bella Banach, 9th grade; Michael Dispenza, 10th grade; and Isabella Kmitch, 12th grade. Congratulations to all of the nominees and the Knights of the Month!
For November/December, people can be nominated for demonstrating "humor." Humor is the ability to look on the lighter side of life and trying to brighten others' days through laughter.

A group of 20 local students looking to get out into the community and help in some way gathered recently (Monday, November 7, 2022) at Glenwood Cemetery in Silver Creek.
Armed with rakes borrowed from their homes or loaned by the district and village, Earth Club and National Honor Society of Silver Creek High School were on a mission to spend a morning giving back.
“The students wanted to show they are willing to get into the community and lend a hand that’s not always there,” says Earth Club advisor and teacher Megan Kucharski, who along with NHS advisor Carolyn Laurenzi, oversaw the work. "We chose Glenwood Cemetery by chance, and we all are so glad we did.”
The students boarded a bus mid-morning and -- when they arrived at the Old Main Road location and saw the vast expanse of leaf-covered ground – they got right to work. For two-plus hours they toiled alongside groundskeeper Cliff Edwards on a wind-swept, sunny day to make the cemetery plots visible again for visitors.
It was hot, sweaty work and -- for efficiency’s sake -- they focused on one large section by raking leaves to a nearby roadway so Mr. Edwards could use his plow to clear them away.
“It’s a great community service project. I’m always happy when the kids are willing to lend a hand and it was a fantastic turnout,” says cemetery board president Ed Newman. “They got a lot of leaves raked and we were against a lot of wind. I know our groundskeeper appreciates it, too.”
After returning to campus, the students enjoyed some pizza lunch and reflected on their effort.
“Being able to speak with the president of the cemetery was what truly made us believe we did something nice for the community,” says Earth Club president Karissa Buchanan, a sophomore at SCHS. “(Mr. Newman) said that us coming down was a huge help and a great deed not only for the cemetery staff, but for those wanting to visit their families. In the end our group was able to look at all the progress and enjoy what we did for our town.”
The Earth Club and National Honor Society are thankful to the cemetery board for affording the students this opportunity to collaborate for the sake of the community.
Glenwood Cemetery operates with a small staff of one part-time employee. It is overseen by the Silver Creek Cemetery Association Inc. Its board members include Mr. Newman, Wayne Ashley, Tyler Bain, David Clark, Donald Dawley, David Edwards, Linda Fryberger, Donald Gage, and Richard Schulenberg.
The cemetery cleanup is the first of many service projects of Earth Club and NHS plan for the 2022-2023 academic year. The groups are always welcoming suggestions for where they should turn their attention. They are already hoping to return to Glenwood in the fall of 2023 to lend a hand.

He holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Gannon University, dual bachelor’s degrees in Secondary Education social studies and history from The State University of New York at Fredonia and an associate degree in liberal arts from Jamestown Community College.

First-graders in Mrs. Mahaney's classroom at Silver Creek Elementary School are learning about Veterans Day. They wrote about thanking service members for protecting our country. 🇺🇸
Fifteen boys in grades 3-5 from Silver Creek Elementary School participated in the Veterans Race — a 5k — on Saturday, November 5, 2022, in Buffalo. 🏃 🇺🇸
The 5k is the culminating event for the Boys on the Right Track program coached by Mrs. Pieniazek and Mrs. Weiss. The program runs for nine weeks and helps boys develop social and emotional skills while training for a non-competitive race. 🤝💛🖤

Silver Creek Middle School’s Red Ribbon Week – celebrated October 24-28, 2022 – was a huge success. Our Black Knights made pledges to celebrate life and live drug free on hearts that were then made into the shape of a ribbon. Our students also worked on adorning their homeroom doors for the door-decorating contest.

DISTINGUISING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class is responsible for the efficient accomplishment of a wide variety of manual tasks in keeping municipal equipment, buildings, grounds, recreational areas and streets cleaned and functionally maintained.
