Friday, September 2, 2022 Parent Broadcast
Good afternoon Silver Creek School Families. We’d like to provide an update regarding transportation. As we begin the 2022-2023 school year, we are starting shorthanded with bus drivers. We are down three drivers since we ended school last June 30. As a result, we have been forced to adjust the end of the day for MS/HS students to dismiss 10 minutes early at 2:15 p.m. This is to allow adequate time for buses to leave, drop MS/HS students off and return to pick up elementary students. We are hopeful to hire more drivers and therefore change the end of the day back to a 2:25 dismissal.
Please know Elementary Transportation post cards mailed Monday and MS/HS post cards mailed this past Tuesday and Wednesday, therefore if you have not received it we anticipate you should receive it today or tomorrow.
• Middle/High School students on the furthest outskirts (first pick-ups), start watching for the bus at 6:05 to 6:15 a.m. Buses pick up on the furthest outskirts and work their way back through the village and towards the school. Therefore, students near the village, MS/HS students should start watching for the bus by 6:45- 6:50 a.m.
• For elementary, the furthest outskirts (first pick-ups) should start looking at 7:45-7:50 a.m. Buses pick up on the furthest outskirts and work their way back through the village and towards the school. Therefore, students in the village should start looking for the bus by 8:15 - 8:30 a.m.
We understand the difficulty of not always knowing certain pickup times. We appreciate your continued patience. Again, as we have been saying, if you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a driver, please contact the transportation department for an application.

Our friends at the Seneca Nation have some fun events coming up! Check out the flyers for the Fall Festival and Back to School Bash!

Parent Broadcast 8/25/2022
Good afternoon Silver Creek families,
I hope all of you are well, enjoying some family time and relaxing. We look forward to the return of students on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
I want to provide an update as to our reopening plans for the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
New York State Education Department and Department of Health released updated school guidance to all schools across New York State this past Monday, August 22. I am excited to share that we continue to move towards a “more normal” school year experience for your children. Most of the COVID layered mitigation strategies have been removed.
Please see the following bulleted items which are changes from last school year:
• Students/staff are no longer required to quarantine if exposed to COVID-19. It is recommended individuals should wear a mask and get tested if they were exposed.
• No physical distancing requirements are in place this school year in school, outside of school, and on school buses.
• Plastic barriers have been removed from all locations.
• COVID pool testing for non-vaccinated individuals is no longer required for any students/staff.
• Schools are no longer required to report testing and positive cases to New York State Dashboard.
• Schools are no longer required to conduct contact tracing.
• Remote instruction will not be available unless the entire district is closed due to emergency.
Please see the following bulleted items which are the same from last school year:
• Masks are optional in school, outside of school, and on school buses- masks are NOT MANDATORY.
• Students/staff that test positive for COVID should isolate for 5 days. Individuals may return after 5 days if they are fever free without fever reducing medicine for 24 hours, symptoms are improving, and they wear a mask days 6-10.
• Students/staff that become symptomatic during the school day can take a COVID test from our school nurse if parent permission is given.
• Schools can require symptomatic students/staff to stay home for a period of 5 days from the onset of symptoms if they cannot present proof of a negative test.
• As always, any student/staff not feeling well with COVID symptoms should stay home or will be sent home if they are not feeling well during the school day.
• Cleaning/disinfecting will be done on a daily basis.
As we have done consistently since the start of COVID 19, we will continue to use the Center of Disease Control to guide us with scientific data supporting their recommendations. Additionally, we fall under the direct guidance of Chautauqua County Department of Health and/or NYS Department of Health with any health emergency.
I am pleased to share we have completed our hiring for the upcoming school year and we have hired outstanding teachers and support staff. We continue to desperately need bus drivers in our transportation department. Currently, we are approximately three drivers short of what we ended last school year with. If you have interest in joining our transportation department, please contact our Transportation Director at (716) 934-2306 ext. 1963

First-grade teacher LYNN FEELEY has devoted the entirety of her 26-year educational career to Silver Creek Central School District. We caught up with Mrs. Feeley this week (August 23, 2022) as she worked to prepare her classroom for the 2022-2023 academic year and she is eagerly anticipating the first day of school.
“I’m happy we all get to be together again,” says Feeley, who spent several years as a Special Education teacher at SCCS before moving to general education. “It’s going to be great to have a fresh start.”
As she approaches her third decade as an educator, Mrs. Feeley has a lot of valuable back-to-school advice for our Black Knight family.
“Parents can practice with their young children repetitive tasks such as unzipping and zipping backpacks, shoe tying or opening and closing their lunchboxes and it will benefit our entire class,” says Feeley. “These small but significant life skills not only help set up our students to feel independence, but can be a huge time-saver allowing us to focus on classroom learning.”

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear friend and educator, Mrs. Marjorie Foxton. Mrs. Foxton graduated from Silver Creek Central School in which she attended her entire life. She then taught in our Elementary school for 23 years before retiring. Upon retirement she continued to serve the community and school as a Board of Education member for 20 years before retiring from the Board of Education this past June 30, 2022. Additionally, Mrs. Foxton’s husband Mel was a Silver Creek School graduate and also retired from teaching at Silver Creek School after 27 years’ service. The Foxtons had four children that all graduated from Silver Creek Schools.
As you can see, Mrs. Foxton and her entire family epitomize Black Knight Pride. #BKP
